What is an IT?
How does one simply describe an IT? You can't. It's just an IT. Sometimes they live in structures, sometimes in cars. They sit there... The ITs sit there.......... They sometimes move, but mostly they don't.
How to spot an IT...
1. Look for a lack of lighting...
2. They tend to be surrounded by technology.
3. ITs drink too much Code Red Mountain Dew.
4. Sometimes they are organized, most of the time they are not.
5. They sometimes make sounds like "Hey..." or hrrrmmm.. or "eeeeeeeeehhhhhhh......(meaning: no fucks given)"
6. Sometimes they go to the bathroom..
7. ITs tend not to wash dishes.
8. ITs like superhero/villain posters around their entire abode.
9. ITs like candles.
10. They sometimes drive Jeeps of various bright colors.
11. ITs can be found hiding behind closed doors.
12. ITs do not like people touching their things.
13. They like loud music.
14. ITs sometimes consume too much alcohol and have to go home because they're drunk.
15. I don't know any more ways of spotting an IT...

Summer Nights
Summer Nights
There are so many things that I could be doing at this very moment. However, I decide that it would be best to do a blog post... I've known of so many people who do not keep up with their blogs, and I know it is hard too. I am guilty of not posting as often as many of the avid bloggers, but I post mainly when I feel like I have something to say.
When something is going on that is noteworthy in my life...
I feel like going to Ireland is noteworthy.. However, I have an entirely different blog page for that agenda. :) #check it out!
Anyway, Summer nights... That is the title of this particular blog. You might be wondering why it is the title right now. Do you want to know the reason why??? ......... It's because I wish we were having more of a Summer right now! It's been raining practically all day, and the weather this Summer just has not been the norm. It's like up north not having a Spring....
Well, I feel like Spring has finally sprung. It's just unfortunate that the Summer has to suffer and be cut short because the Earth is confused. Yeah... I feel like we should all write a letter to Earth and ask for our warm, bonfire, sitting on the back of tailgates weather back. I don't know about everyone else, but I sure could use some time around a bonfire talking about everything and nothing at the same time. We're young and full of life. We need to live life to the fullest.
To some, living life to the fullest means going out every night and getting drunk with a bunch of people you don't know at a party that you were not even invited to. YOLO.... NOT! That is not the true meaning of "You only live once." The true meaning to this abbreviated quote is that there is only an allotted amount of time that each and every one of us has on this Earth, and we need to live life to the fullest. We need to enjoy time with our friends and family. It does not mean going out and getting drunk and not even being able to remember what happened last night. That is not what it means at all.
With that said, I would hope that younger individuals, or even parents of younger individuals who may come across this blog, will take a moment and figure out what is going on in your or your child's life. Are you or they being responsible?
I am not entirely sure what brought on this rant about being responsible and living life to the fullest, but I feel like it was needed. Maybe it will open someone's eyes, or it could just be shrugged off like many other things that have been written like this.
As an 18 year old, I feel like my generation and the generations to come have been becoming more and more off track. I only wish everyone can be happy. I only wish that everyone will find something or someone that they love and stick by it or them.... and remember.. No matter what happens in life, a disaster, illness, fights, breakups, heartbreaks, etc... You will always have your family and friends. They will always be there for you.
With that, I would like to say YOLO.
"You only live once, so be all that you can and want to be."

Almost Summer!!!
Finals!
This week is finals week! It's crazy, I know! I had my first exam today at 10am, which was my Botany exam. I feel like it went well. I won't know my grade until Wednesday though. It kind of makes me nervous. I really hope I did well. I studied for hours and hours Saturday, Sunday, and this morning. Hopefully it was worth it. My next exam is not until Thursday. This gives me time to start studying for that second and final exam, which is History of American Architecture.
For now, I am taking a break for the rest of the day. I will probably go to work some tomorrow to make some money and then study more as well as on Wednesday.
Moving out of the Dorm: Bah bye West McNair.
I have to be moved out of the dorm by the end of the week. I will probably start packing tonight... putting things in tubs anyway. I'm not sure when I can start moving my things over to the sorority house. I think there might still be stuff in my room right now.
Phi Delta Chi (ΦΔX):
I am now officially a sister of Phi Delta Chi, and I am so excited! :) I feel like the decision that I made to start going to rushes at the Phi Delta Chi house was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It has really given me the opportunity to have a group of girls who I know I can always count on. They believe in me, and that is something that I feel like I really need in my life as well as in my group of friends.
My Big Sister, Traci Billings, is graduating this year, on Saturday actually. I know she has worked so hard to get where she is and has really inspired me to do what I believe is the best for myself. She is going on to Graduate school and on to the next step in her life, which I think is amazing. However, I really am going to miss her dearly. Over the past 5 weeks, I have really come to look to her as someone who has a lot of knowledge as well as experience with everything that I need to accomplish with my degree and life. She really has become my Big Sister not only with sorority events, but with things in my life as well.
I love you, Traci! :D
Well, I suppose it is about that time for me to begin packing my things up. On the other hand, I could always play some Sims 3 University Life that I have not really been able to check out yet. :) This is a really tough decision right now.

Super hard decision. Maybe I will pack for a little while, and then I can play Sims 3 for the rest of the night. I feel like that is a good enough compromise with myself. haha

Update on Ireland Trip and Life
Hey!
I figured I would do an update! A lot has gone on since my last post. The Ireland trip to study abroad is on its way. As well as that, I have decided to join a local sorority here at Tech that is called Phi Delta Chi. I have begun pledging this week. It is definitely a huge time commitment, but I think it is worth it.
Ireland Trip
I did not end up getting that first scholarship. My entry did not make it into the top three. As well, I have not heard back from the larger scholarship, but I am a bit doubtful about that one because of the circumstances. That scholarship was mostly for non-European countries, and I am going to a Western European country, which didn't give me the leg up on getting it.
Anyway, the next step in my trip to study abroad in Ireland is to attend the Pre-Departure Workshop. I will learn about different cultural aspects of Ireland as well as different sayings that I should know before I go over there. There are a lot of unique sayings that would make me fit in easier while I am there. I am excited to make some Irish friends!! :D
Phi Delta Chi
Some of you may already know about my decision to join Phi Delta Chi. I attended the Semi-Formal Preferential Rush last Monday, and within the week I have begun pledging. Yesterday was my pinning ceremony, which was fun. However, I cannot say much about what went on, but that's okay.. However, I can say that I got a Big Sister!! Traci Billings! She is great and very supportive as well as an Anthropology major here at Tech that I can talk to about Antho. things, and she actually understands! :D Being a part of the Associating Class of Gamma Tau has been a ride already, and we've only begun. Over the next 5 weeks, we will have to complete multiple tasks while keeping up with studies because studies are important. They are important to not only myself but to the Sorority as well, which is one of the many reasons I like being associated with Phi Delta Chi.
I can already tell that I am going to have some crazy times with these girls. :)
Side note: Thank you, Christopher James Stewart for being so supportive of my decision to join the sorority and for putting up with me when I call you asking for rides places because I don't have a vehicle myself. I love you! :D <3 You're the best boyfriend in the world and perfect for me! <3
Housing
I have decided to live in the sorority house next year. It is a little high priced, but I know that it is more convenient for me being in the sorority. It will be great. :) I'm definitely excited! I will have to sign the lease fairly soon and will be living with some of the other sorority girls. I am mostly excited about finding somewhere to live where I know all of the people living there. It is more of a comfort thing for me. I think they are excited to have me there too. :) I'm excited.

Reyna's in Ireland Blog Page
Hey, all!
I just wanted to do a quick post to notify you all about the slight change to my blog page. I have created another blog specifically for my time in Ireland this summer! It's called "Reyna's In Ireland," if you couldn't guess that by the title of this post already.
Anyway, I will be posting on that blog all about getting ready to go and everything that comes with that long and strenuous process!
Passport
I will be applying for my passport soon because I have to get that done. I am preferably going to do it early next week because I just don't have the money right now. Passports cost $165 for the whole thing! It's a bit pricey if you ask me. However, they are good for 10 years, so I suppose it isn't too bad.
Scholarships
I am applying for as many scholarships as I can find for the summer. I applied for one last Friday that was basically a MEME creating contest for study abroad. The first place prize is $1,000. I hope I get at least 1st, 2nd, or 3rd because they are all money prizes, which would be awesome! There is another scholarship that I am working on right now; it is called the Gilman Scholarship. The Gilman is basically for only Pell Grant recipients, but it helps those individuals be able to study abroad, which I think is awesome. I would love it so much if I was able to receive that scholarship. However, a scholarship is not earned if there is no work done. Thus, I have been spending much of my "down time," which is very scarce, working on that application and the essays that it requires.
I also had to take out a loan because I wanted to make sure to have the money to go on this trip. Studying abroad is definitely easier to get financial aid for during the regular school year. Trying to go in the summer, I received only $50 in financial aid from the government. I suppose that was all that was left after everyone else received theirs. Oh well, I still get to go!

Update!!!
Applications
I have not posted on here in a long time.. Since sometimes last semester. Anyway, I had sent in my initial online application to Study Abroad in Ireland through the USAC program. Since then, I have also applied to the International Programs and Services here at Michigan Tech because I was supposed to do that first anyway. A few days ago, I received an email in regards to my application. It began a little like this:
"Congratulations! ..."
I didn't really even have to read the rest of the email to know that I had been approved for the trip. Then, about 5 hours later, I received another email in regards to the finalization of my application to the one I had talked about last semester, and it began something like:
"Congratulations! ..."
Now, I know I am going!
Paying for Ireland
Now, it is time to begin thinking about how I will be paying for this trip.... It will cost, overall, around $9,000, which is fairly expensive for myself, a poor college student.
BTW.. I have found that almost all college students are poor here.. Well, besides the ones from Asia that I have seen driving the newest Chargers and such.. CRAZY!
Anyway...
I turned in my Summer 2013 application for Financial Aid, which I have recently learned that summer aid is a first-come first-serve basis. I am hoping to at least get a little bit of aid. That would definitely be nice. However, I do also have a couple of back-up plans. I am going to be applying for a scholarship called the Gillman Scholarship. That scholarship mostly goes to students who want to study in high-demand areas of the world. However, my study abroad person here at Tech told me I have a chance still of getting it.. I just have to make myself marketable. There are two portions of the application. The first is an essay that talks about why I want to study abroad, and more specifically why I want to study abroad in Ireland. The second part of the application deals with another essay. However, this second essay is a proposal for a project. The follow-up project requires the recipient of the scholarship to come back to the United States and promote study abroad and cross-cultural awareness. I think I would be pretty good at that because of my major and being so submerged into another culture.
Other Shenanigans
Other than all of the hectic stuff that deals with applying and getting things around to study abroad in Ireland, I have also been up to some other things.
Classes
I have some pretty crazy and kind of cool classes this semester:
-Botany (The study of plants)
-Botany Lab
-World Cultures (It is basically a history class that requires weekly papers on movies that we watch on Fridays, which is pretty easy)
-The Copper Country (Mostly about the mining industry and how the area of Houghton/Hancock/Keweenaw became what it is today)
-History of American Architecture (I love this class)
-Beginning Bowling (Fun)
-Beginning Snowboarding (Not as much fun... I keep falling and hurting myself, and the t-bar tried to kill me..)
Volunteering
Unfortunately, I have not been able to go back to the Carnegie Museum to assist Elise with the Synagogue information. My schedule is too crazy to even fit in an hour to steal Chris's truck and drive to the Museum on Wednesdays. However, I have told her that I would be willing to do any research she might have that I could do over the weekend at the Library Archives and such.
Work
I've been trying to work as much as I can. I do not work on Mondays because of my classes, but I do work the rest of the week. I work 2,3,4 hours at a time during each of my shifts during the week. It is becoming difficult this semester to balance work and school. I do not seem to have much of a personal life except for sometimes on the weekends. I like to spend a little time with Chris on the weekends, but I don't always get a whole lot of time. However, I did rearrange his room this past weekend, which was Winter Carnival!
Winter Carnival!!!!
Winter Carnival was this past weekend!! I took some pictures that I have posted to my facebook page, which you can see if you are my friend. I will be posting more pictures soon as well! During Winter Carnival, there were a lot of things going on: broomball, the Snow Ball Dance, Statue building (month long/overnighters), music playing out of snow speakers, people visiting campus, children on campus (weird), etc. There was so much going on! OH!!! BTW... There was a 36 hour tetter-totter-a-thon as well. :) It was epic. They literally sat there tetter-tottering for 36 hours straight! It was a win! haha
Anyway, I went out onto campus about 3 days out of the five.. I didn't feel like freezing every single night. I figured that might make me sick. However, I did go to see Brian play his broomball game on Saturday, which got cancelled because the other team didn't show up. Kind of made me sad, but Chris, Larissa, and I stood there and watched them goof around on the ice of the rink. It was actually pretty entertaining.
I also held a movie night in Allison and I's room one night. I invited Larissa and Hannah over to watch Pitch Perfect because they had not seen it yet. Rachel, my RA(Resident Assistant), also ended up joining us because she heard a movie and walked in the room. I invited her to stay and watch, and she did. It was really funny to watch her reactions to all of the different parts of the movie because she thought it was supposed to be a children's movie. Yeah, not so much... haha I do know, however, that she loved Fat Amy's character.
BTW... Pitch Perfect is my new favorite movie. :) ...and the Mister bought it for me. <3 I love him. :) haha
Yeah...
So.. I just wrote a crap ton of stuff for you all to read.. Anyway, time for my American Architecture class and then meeting up with Miss Ashlee Hughes afterward because she is in town for the NMU vs. Michigan Tech Hockey game tonight. I didn't get any tickets to go to it, but that's okay because I would be tempted to sit in the Northern crowd with Ashlee while wearing Michigan Tech stuff. haha Probably not a good idea... ;)
Anyway, I've got to post this so that I can get into class now..

Volunteering
Unfortunately, I have not been able to go back to the Carnegie Museum to assist Elise with the Synagogue information. My schedule is too crazy to even fit in an hour to steal Chris's truck and drive to the Museum on Wednesdays. However, I have told her that I would be willing to do any research she might have that I could do over the weekend at the Library Archives and such.
Work
I've been trying to work as much as I can. I do not work on Mondays because of my classes, but I do work the rest of the week. I work 2,3,4 hours at a time during each of my shifts during the week. It is becoming difficult this semester to balance work and school. I do not seem to have much of a personal life except for sometimes on the weekends. I like to spend a little time with Chris on the weekends, but I don't always get a whole lot of time. However, I did rearrange his room this past weekend, which was Winter Carnival!
Winter Carnival!!!!
Winter Carnival was this past weekend!! I took some pictures that I have posted to my facebook page, which you can see if you are my friend. I will be posting more pictures soon as well! During Winter Carnival, there were a lot of things going on: broomball, the Snow Ball Dance, Statue building (month long/overnighters), music playing out of snow speakers, people visiting campus, children on campus (weird), etc. There was so much going on! OH!!! BTW... There was a 36 hour tetter-totter-a-thon as well. :) It was epic. They literally sat there tetter-tottering for 36 hours straight! It was a win! haha
Anyway, I went out onto campus about 3 days out of the five.. I didn't feel like freezing every single night. I figured that might make me sick. However, I did go to see Brian play his broomball game on Saturday, which got cancelled because the other team didn't show up. Kind of made me sad, but Chris, Larissa, and I stood there and watched them goof around on the ice of the rink. It was actually pretty entertaining.
I also held a movie night in Allison and I's room one night. I invited Larissa and Hannah over to watch Pitch Perfect because they had not seen it yet. Rachel, my RA(Resident Assistant), also ended up joining us because she heard a movie and walked in the room. I invited her to stay and watch, and she did. It was really funny to watch her reactions to all of the different parts of the movie because she thought it was supposed to be a children's movie. Yeah, not so much... haha I do know, however, that she loved Fat Amy's character.
BTW... Pitch Perfect is my new favorite movie. :) ...and the Mister bought it for me. <3 I love him. :) haha
Yeah...
So.. I just wrote a crap ton of stuff for you all to read.. Anyway, time for my American Architecture class and then meeting up with Miss Ashlee Hughes afterward because she is in town for the NMU vs. Michigan Tech Hockey game tonight. I didn't get any tickets to go to it, but that's okay because I would be tempted to sit in the Northern crowd with Ashlee while wearing Michigan Tech stuff. haha Probably not a good idea... ;)
Anyway, I've got to post this so that I can get into class now..

. . . Ireland?? Yes!
Should I go?
So... I have this opportunity. There is a summer program in Ireland, and it may be doable by myself. However, I will have to take out a loan and/or get a ton of scholarships to pay for it. This trip would be to study abroad in Ireland for about a month. I was introduced to this opportunity by the study abroad person, Darnishia Slade, here at Michigan Tech. She's pretty awesome! :D I'm really excited to even have this opportunity. What do you think I should do? Should I go to Ireland even if it means more possible debt for me in the long run if I cannot get enough scholarships?
The Cost:
The cost of a trip to Ireland in the summer for classes is around $9,000. This includes a lot of things though. The airfare, living, dining, school course costs, books, and more is included in this $9,000 fee.

Things I would do:
Classes like: Irish Gaelic Language course, Irish history courses, lineage finder course, etc. There would also be a short field school in Dublin, Ireland where I would be given the opportunity to do some of the work that I was planning on doing after college.

Oooooopppsss... I forgot to post this, but here it is anyway! :D
After a week of Thanksgiving Break, I am still sitting here in Chris's truck think to myself that a week is just not enough time... I find myself thinking about all I have left to do this semester and all that I have to look forward to for Christmas break.
Only 3 it so more weeks to go before Christmas break, and I can't wait.
Being away from home is difficult, but it is also a good thing. Not being completely dependent on my parents has taught me a lot of things.
1. Manage your money.. There is always something that you may want but not necessarily able to afford.
2. Make good friends.. Having good friends is always a plus.
3. Stay in good wig your RA.. She or he may be more lenient about certain things.
4. If invited out, you don't always have to say "yes." It's okay to say no.
5. Everything you think is true is not always.
There are so many more things that I have learned over the past couple of months as well. I could sit here and list every single little thing, but I figured that would be a waste of both my time and yours.
So.... yeah..
Oh!! By the way, I completely forgot to post this post when I was writing it. That is why it is so late. I told you all about my Thanksgiving in the other post I just posted though! :D

Wow, it's been a long time!!
Hey!!
I bet you thought you would never hear from me again..? Well, you were wrong. I haven't posted on here for a long time because, to be honest, I forgot about it. I forgot about this entire blog. Yes, I know, it is bad. However, I did get fairly distracted by school. There was so much going on here at Michigan Tech as well as in life in general.
My 18th Birthday!!!
I had my 18th birthday!! :D October 13th, 2012!! It was so much fun. My birthday was actually on Homecoming day for Michigan Tech. However, I did not go to the homecoming game. Instead, Chris and I drove all the way to Nora's cabin to meet up with my mother and Nora(my second mother). We then drove with them another hour and a half after the four hour drive across the Upper Peninsula. We were on our way to one of Mayville's away football games that just so happened to be close to the U.P.! I was so excited that day I just could not wait to leave. I even stole Chris's truck and drove to his house to pack and make a lunch for the both of us before hitting the road. The game was on the Friday before my birthday and it was just a wonderful present.
When we got to the game, I was able to see a lot of my friends! Alexandra, Siara, Mika, Stevie, Haley, and so many more.. The band was even there!! I got to see Mr. Adkins too!! :D However, I believe the person that was the happiest to see me was my mother. Before beginning college here at Michigan Tech, I had never been gone from home without her for more than a week. Two months was the long one here at Tech.
There are not many breaks between the beginning of the Fall Semester and the end of it. Only Thanksgiving.... It is a terrible long time before having a break..
Thanksgiving Break!
SO.... Thanksgiving Break came around and I was so ready for it to be here..
Chris and I left Tech on Saturday this time because he didn't want to leave Houghton at like 5:00pm.. I don't blame him, but I was so ready for a break from school and from the dorms. We had very good whether most of the way down. However, going over the Mackinac Bridge, I realized that it was really foggy out, and it continued to be foggy for most of the way South of the Bridge. That was okay though.
The drive from Houghton to Fostoria is about 8-9hours on a normal, good-weathered day. However, that was not the case this time. It took us about 10 hours total to get home because we were pulling a trailer and had to stop about 4 or 5 times for gas.. Chris was able to stop at the Indian Reservation gas station in Baraga though and get gas a bit cheaper. That was nice. Gas on the way down state cost him about $200 or so. IT'S CRAZY!! Just saying....
Anyway, when we finally got there, Jenee, Chris's mother was there. :) That was a nice surprise for him. I was excited, however, for the next day! A group of friends and I were going to see the last Twilight movie Breaking Dawn Part 2. IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!! :D Just saying.. I would definitely recommend that movie for everyone to see, even if they don't like the Twilight movies. I didn't know exactly what to expect, but the movie was definitely worth the money spent.

Thanksgiving Day was kind of hectic. I got to make the Turkey and help mom make the rest of the dinner!! :D The turkey turned out magnificent, if I do say so myself. Then, we ate! I only had a plate of food though because I had not been eating as much as I used to before going to college mainly because I don't have time, but also because I have come to the conclusion that the food in the dorms is not the greatest. Anyway, I was also saving room for the other dinner that we had at Chris's Grandmother's house. Renee, Siara, Elaine, and a few other people were there for that dinner. It was fairly good, but I could not eat as much as I would have liked. I only ate about half of a plate there. It was still yummy though!!

Cold and Rainy Day
Statistics... Thanks for the help..
So, I sent an email to my Statistics teacher last night asking about the homework and what exactly he was expecting so that I did not do something completely wrong and then get a horrible grade. I never got an email back. However, today, when class began, he started to talk about getting an email last night.. To the whole class! He didn't say it was me though.. But still! He was talking about how everyone should be coming to class and paying attention and taking notes.. I just sat there and was like... "I do all of those things!!" It made me very upset. He told the whole class in a message that he sent out this morning that he will not help people on the homework because we should know what we're doing with the use of our notes and handouts that he goes over in class.. I don't think he realizes that maybe not everyone understands everything perfectly yet.. It is only the second week, and he is kind of vague about some things. He gives formulas, but doesn't explain how to use them.
It looks like I'm going to have to figure it all out myself.. I do, however, have awesome friends here that can help me out because they are second years and higher and have already taken statistics. That will be at least somewhat helpful.
World Peoples & Environments
I have my first assignment due in this class on Friday. I already sent the paper in for feedback and she told me to just finish it up and it should be good. The paper is supposed to be about Culture Shock. Even though some people have never been outside of the United States, we can still experience the feeling of alienation when visiting different places within the United States as well because of the drastic diversity of the nation with which we live in. We are, after all, the melting pot, and that does not only mean difference in ethnicity, but it means difference in culture as well.
Learning
I am certainly learning a lot here at Michigan Tech, and I am only in my second week of classes. I have learned a tremendous amount of information about archaeology, anthropology, and surprisingly, American Politics. I have an Institutions class that is based upon the institutions of the American government (economics, politics, etc.). There is a lot still that I do not know, but before I came here I could not have told you a lot about the different aspects of Anthropology as a whole because I didn't know all of the aspects yet. However, I do know some of them now. I know that Anthropology is a more generalized field of study, which incorporates psychology, archaeology, and many other subfields. The part of anthropology that interest me the most still is Forensic Anthropology. However, I will have to go to graduate school for that because they do not offer Forensic Anthropology here in a Graduate program. The Anthropology that I am studying here the most right now is Cultural Anthropology. It is pretty interesting overall. There are a lot of different cultures in the world. It is a very diverse world that we live in today. :)
Do I sound smart yet? Haha
Well, I should get started on my homework soon.. I have the rest of the day off, so I figure that I would get ahead on classwork.

Roommate!
I finally have a roommate! Her name is Allison McLeod. She's a Mechanical Engineer. She's awesome. :) We had hot chocolate tonight. Haha. Anyway, I also got a care package from mom and dad today. :) it has tons of snack foods in it. I will post pictures soon. :)
College is fun so far. :) and... No. I have not been to any parties. Some other people have though.. I've heard some talk about some guys... They probably won't be here long....
I am making quite a few new friends and acquaintances. I love the campus.. sometimes, I just sit outside and watch as people rush by on their way to class.. I always find it refreshening to step back and take a look at the world from a different perspective than usual.
After all, I do want to be the person who walks through the puddles, not around them. It's important to be persistent and go for the gold. That's what got me where I am today.. a lot of people here just walked right through high school without a pause.. but me... I had to work hard to get here. And school means a lot to me. That's why me being here is what's best for me.
I'm really appreciative of all the support I have as well from my family and friends. It really boosts my confidence. :)
Well, I have class at 8am... I'll try to post more often.

Welcome to the UP
Lady On the Lawn Mower Getting Her Mail
So, it turns out that there was this lady that I saw on the stretch between Strongs, Michigan and Houghton, Michigan who was getting her mail. It was very interesting though because she just so happened to be riding her lawn mower to get her mail.. All I could think was, "Wow, that's just a bit redneck.." I made the comment to Chris about what I thought, and I got a good chuckle out of him. It was worth it for me to make him laugh.
Closer to the North Pole Than the Equator Now
We passed a sign on the way up to the U.P. that said that we were now closer to the North Pole than we were to the Equator. I believe that it was the 45th Parallel. I'm not 100% sure though. You know what that means? It means that everything is going to be colder from now on.....
I Was So Wrong!
Turns out..... It wasn't colder just yet up here. For the past week, by the way, sorry for this post being so late, it has been in the upper 70s to the upper 80s. A couple times, it even went over 90 degrees.

Final Day
Saying goodbye to anyone is hard. I had to say goodbye to a friend that I have had for 17 years today, mind you, I am only 17 years old. It was kind of bittersweet. She is going her own way and attending Ross Medical in Davison. My friends are going their own ways, and so am I.
Houghton is a beautiful place.
Houghton is one of the most beautiful places that I have seen. The entire Upper Peninsula of Michigan is beautiful and so uninhabited.. I would really like to own some land in the Upper Peninsula at one point in my life. Maybe a cabin or something for vacations in the summer.

2 Days
Puppy!
Donnie got a puppy!!! :D It is a Husky and Lab mix. He is so adorable! I will post a picture in the next post. Donnie named this little puppy Apollo. I really like his name. :)
Finishing Packing for Real
Yesterday, we spent a lot of time packing my stuff and hauling it over to Chris's Trailer. We had to completely rearrange the trailer though so that everything fit more efficiently.

3 Days
Time To Finish Packing
It's about time to finish packing and loading my stuff into the trailer to be ready to head out on Thursday. I am getting excited, but I am also very nervous. I know it is going to be very hard for my mom to let me go, but I'm very glad that she is going up north with me to help me get settled into my dorm. These past few days are meant for spending time with my family and saying my goodbyes.
Roommate Situation
So far, I have not been reassigned a roommate since Larissa Grundmanis had to begin her college career in the spring instead of this fall, in a couple weeks. I have been checking online to see if one has been placed with me almost every day. No one has yet though. It simply says that I am placed in a two person room, and what my address is for the dorm.
Netflix
I really love Netflix. My dad has it, so I kind of just use the online portion of it for me. He might think it's weird that he has movies that he "supposedly" had already watched, but really.... It was me. Haha! Anyway, I think Netflix is really going to come in handy up north when I don't want to go out and get a movie, but I just feel like watching one. That's what I usually do now anyway. I can watch movies any time!! I really like the convenience of it all.
Netflix has a pretty big movie bank. However, I was very sad to find out that they do not have the Titanic!!! What the heck?! That is one of the most popular movies ever, and they don't have it?! That's just crazy to me....... I really wanted to watch it one time too.
Last Textbook
I received my last textbook today. This last textbook is based on human prehistory. It seems like a wonderful textbook, if you know what I mean. I am so into Anthropology and Archaeology. It all fascinates me! I just can't wait to get started! I do have a feeling though that I will be doing many reports on different aspects of these studies. This last textbook was for the class Prehistory & Archaeology.
Little Princes
I finally finished my Summer Reading book, The Little Princes. That book is so wonderful. I cannot believe I had not heard about it before I was assigned to read it for Reading on Inquiry for Michigan Tech! I am very excited, however, that I get to meet the author, Conor Grennan. He seems like such an amazing person for having done what he has for the trafficked children in Nepal. I never really knew much about Nepal to begin with, but I think it is a place that you definitely have to get used to.
There is even a part at the end where he talks about what happened after the end of the story. He had the children of Little Princes read the book. They really enjoyed their parts in the story. They also asked Conor why he did not put in some stories like the one about him being bitten by a Nepali dog, and how Conor is afraid of the Nepali dogs. These parts just made me laugh. It shows how awesome those kids are.
What makes the book even more interesting is that it is all true. The Next Generation Nepal (NGN) is still around in Nepal! It's just a wonderful thing to know about, to know that the trafficked children have hope in Nepal. No children should be taken from their parents like that in any place in this world of ours. It just isn't right.

It's about time to finish packing and loading my stuff into the trailer to be ready to head out on Thursday. I am getting excited, but I am also very nervous. I know it is going to be very hard for my mom to let me go, but I'm very glad that she is going up north with me to help me get settled into my dorm. These past few days are meant for spending time with my family and saying my goodbyes.
Roommate Situation
So far, I have not been reassigned a roommate since Larissa Grundmanis had to begin her college career in the spring instead of this fall, in a couple weeks. I have been checking online to see if one has been placed with me almost every day. No one has yet though. It simply says that I am placed in a two person room, and what my address is for the dorm.
Netflix
I really love Netflix. My dad has it, so I kind of just use the online portion of it for me. He might think it's weird that he has movies that he "supposedly" had already watched, but really.... It was me. Haha! Anyway, I think Netflix is really going to come in handy up north when I don't want to go out and get a movie, but I just feel like watching one. That's what I usually do now anyway. I can watch movies any time!! I really like the convenience of it all.
Netflix has a pretty big movie bank. However, I was very sad to find out that they do not have the Titanic!!! What the heck?! That is one of the most popular movies ever, and they don't have it?! That's just crazy to me....... I really wanted to watch it one time too.
Last Textbook
I received my last textbook today. This last textbook is based on human prehistory. It seems like a wonderful textbook, if you know what I mean. I am so into Anthropology and Archaeology. It all fascinates me! I just can't wait to get started! I do have a feeling though that I will be doing many reports on different aspects of these studies. This last textbook was for the class Prehistory & Archaeology.
Little Princes
I finally finished my Summer Reading book, The Little Princes. That book is so wonderful. I cannot believe I had not heard about it before I was assigned to read it for Reading on Inquiry for Michigan Tech! I am very excited, however, that I get to meet the author, Conor Grennan. He seems like such an amazing person for having done what he has for the trafficked children in Nepal. I never really knew much about Nepal to begin with, but I think it is a place that you definitely have to get used to.

Scholarships
Scholarships are the greatest things in the world. I am so appreciative of the Masons of the Masonic Temple in Caro, Michigan for awarding me the scholarship that they have. Without it, I would be scraping by just to go to Michigan Tech. I appreciate every bit of help that I can get when it comes to financing my college education. It is very important to me that I further my education to the best of my abilities, and that is exactly what I am trying to do.
Speaking of scholarships, I received my first scholarship yesterday at the Masonic Temple in Caro, Michigan. It was definitely an interesting presentation to attend. I also was able to talk to a couple of my classmates from Mayville. I spoke to Steven E Richardson and Gabby Heida. It was great being able to see them.

Cultural Anthropology Book
Well, it seems that the book that I had to order the second time is on its way to the U.P. I had it sent to my address there because I didn't want to take the chance of it being stuck down here at home instead of up north where I needed it to be for my classes.
Textbooks Are Here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two of my textbooks arrived! I received my Introductory Statistics and one of the two books for my Prehistory & Archaeology class. I was so excited! I hope the other book that I have yet to receive here at home will come tomorrow or the next day. If not, I am going to have to start trying to figure out where it is. The statistics book looks terrifying. I have no idea about anything remotely close to statistics. I'm more of an Algebra/Trigonometry person rather than statistics. I just hope that the class isn't too difficult. I have a feeling I'm am still going to be using the Learning Centers up there a lot in the Math Department. I have been told that the Math Department up there isn't the best. Even if they are not the best, I will do my best.
Learning Centers
Learning Centers are places that you can go to get help with homework or to work out some concepts that are giving you trouble with students and faculty that are there to do just that, help you. I really love the idea of being able to go somewhere to get help if I need it. It makes it a lot more laid back, I think.
There is a different learning center in different areas on campus for each of the different areas of study. There is a Math Learning Center. There is a Science Learning Center. There is a History Learning Center.. Etc.....
Another awesome aspect about Michigan Tech is that there are computer labs for each department as well. There is a lab for every learning department, such as the Social Sciences. There is one for Chemistry. There is also one for Engineering.. Etc... They have all of these separated so that each computer on campus does not need all of the possible programs for every department. The computers in the certain computer labs have programs that their field of study will need. The labs are wonderful places to work on projects because they do indeed have all of the programs on the computers that someone would need in their field of study. It's a wonderful idea as well, I think.
Anyway, until I write again. The countdown is still counting down!

This picture just cracked me up the first time I saw it because of the Husky-on-husky aspect of it.. I just never thought I would see a Husky *dog* wearing a husky *hat* at any point in my life!

Well, I suppose it might be an effective way of finding out how many freshmen girls are on campus?! I don't know. Who would even honk at that?! Do they want their daughter to be prowled upon by guys weird enough to do this in the first place?!
Anyway, this post was kind of funny to me because the caption that went with the post was asking whether or not we would see stuff like that next weekend during drop off for Freshmen.
I could definitely see that happening too because of the guy to girl ratio at Michigan Tech being about 1 to 5.
Although, I might have you know that it seems like there are a lot of Freshmen this year that are girls. Even, with an increase in the female population, I'm pretty sure the ratio will not even budge.

7 Days
Cellular Service/Carriers
Around here, where I live, the biggest carriers are: Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, Thumb Cellular, and possibly a couple other smaller names. Anyway, I have a phone through Verizon, but I also have my brother's old phone from his plan through Sprint. **I never know when that is going to change though. If he doesn't pay the bill, no phones for neither him nor me.** Anyway, The cell service up north is basically just Verizon. I have been told that only Verizon and AT&T work up in that area, but I'm not quite sure. I haven't tested the Sprint phone out up there. The only reason I like the Sprint phone is because it is a smart phone. Yes, a smartphone. It's a hand-me-down, but it's like new to me! I do really like it. However, the part about possibly not having service at some point down my timeline makes me not want to trust the phone. Therefore, my mother told me to keep the Verizon phone so that I would have a phone just in case Donnie bails on paying the bill.
The Little Princes: One Man's Promise to Bring Home the Lost Children of Nepal by Conor Grennan
So far, I have loved this book from beginning to where I am now. I know that most of the other people that are going to be Freshman have already read the book completely, but I'd rather have the story fresh in my mind for orientation week and speaking about it with other Freshmen. According to the Orientation Week schedule, we have a certain time period where we must sit together in groups and talk about the Summer Reading Book. I don't really mind talking about this book though because it is a great book. I was so thrilled to find out that it is a true story. I know it is not entirely a good situation, with children being trafficked and all, but just to know that someone, Conor Grennan, would go WAY out of his way to help save children and reunite them with their families is amazing.

Travelling
I believe that I will be travelling the farthest for college out of all of my Class of 2012 from Mayville. However, we did have one that went into the service, Daniel Dusenberry. He just might end up travelling farther.. Not right away of course, but I'm still proud of what he is doing for our country. Anyway, a trip to my University will take about 9 - 10 hours depending on weather. With the trailer, it might just be around 9.5 hours to get there. Even though most of the travel is on highways, once you get into the U.P. it is more or less a 55mph speed limit all the way from the bridge to Houghton. I think that may feel like it takes longer anyway. It takes about 4 hours from where I am to get to the Mackinac Bridge, and then another 4 hours or so to get across the U.P.
Speaking of the U.P. I was supposed to go see my one friend Ashlee that lives up there now. **She, unfortunately, goes to my University's rival University.** Ashlee goes to NMU (Northern Michigan University). I will have to figure something out.. I would really like to see her again and hang out. She is one of the funniest people you will ever meet!
Gas prices
This is a little heading below the bigger one of travelling. Gas prices need to go down a lot right about now. I would appreciate that VERY MUCH ECONOMY! There is really no real reason why gas prices have to be around $4.00 a gallon! NO REASON!!! And just because you can, does not make it okay! Some people are just so greedy.
If you are wondering who I believe is to blame for this? I blame the CEOs of the oil companies who think they need billions of dollars all the time. Yeah, no. You don't. It is not required to live in a mansion when there is only you and a wife and possibly a kid.. A mansion is way too big and just requires more maintenance. Really.. If you didn't buy such large houses... or multiple houses, you would not need so much money to begin with! Duh! Anyway, I do not, in any way, blame the people who work at the gas stations. They are just doing their job. I understand that. That is why I would never take out my feelings on someone who is working at the gas station itself because I know that they are not entirely to blame.
Here is a question to ponder:
If you were to work at a gas station, would you be obligated to buy gas there? What if it cheaper across the road? Might you be reprehended for buying gas elsewhere?
Anyway, that's all for now. I will post again possibly tomorrow.

Final Decision.
I finally made the decision to try my luck with buying online again for my Cultural Anthropology book. I used a different site this time. I also had the book sent up north to my dorm there just in case shipping takes longer than expected.. I thought that would be the best option.
Now that that is all taken care of, I am trying to fix my computer before heading up north... It's being pretty slow compared to normal.. I am running a disk defrag right now, and waiting to see if that does it any good. However, the darn defragmenter is slow too!!!
Well, since I finally had made the decision about whether to buy online again or not, I figured I would write an update on the whole situation.
I believe it may be getting to be that time of night... The time of night when I either want to go to bed or watch a movie... I'm not sure which it'll be just yet.
